Hunt Pronghorn Antelope on the prairies of Eastern Montana.

Pronghorn are a symbol of the west and numbers are back on the rise here in Montana. We have a vast amount of land at our disposal and you are assured to have a fun and enjoyable hunt. Our guests have had a 100% shot opportunity last four seasons. With mild weather and great odds of success, this just might be the most fun hunt we offer!

Our hunt area boasts a robust population with strong trophy potential. For this reason our region 700 tags are highly sought after by hunters across the country. Hunters have pulled tags in the first year applying but generally you should expect to draw in your second or third year applying.

This is a fantastic hunt to introduce new hunters to the sport or get a taste of the Western hunting experience.

Rifle Hunting - Our rifle hunts usually start the second Saturday in October. If you are seriously considering a Montana Antelope hunt then we recommend you plan a year or two ahead, our rifle tags can be hard to draw you are looking at 25% draw odds your first year. To be assured you will pull a tag you need to be willing to apply for at least 2-3 years. We will help you through the process to make sure that you are applied on time and for the correct area.

How do you hunt? We employ spot and stalk techniques to find the best buck possible for you. This involves coving a lot of ground to look over as many animals as possible. You will see 50-100 Antelope per day on average and it is not uncommon to pass over 20-30 different bucks before we find the one that we are after.

What size animal will I have the opportunity to harvest? Our average buck will have 13-14” horns and score 72-75” A really good buck for our area will have 15-16” horns and score 75-80”. Our shot opportunity has been 100% three years running. This is a great hunt to experience Western hunting and come home with a trophy.

Holding out for “the big one” does not increase your odds of killing a giant, if you are dead set on killing a buck that scores 80”+ then I recommend that you look into a limited entry or landowner tag hunt in New Mexico, Wyoming, or Arizona.

Average shot distance? This is the most common and difficult questions to answer. If one hunter shoots a buck at 400 yards and one shoots a buck at 50 yards then what is the “average” shot? Antelope have exceptional eyesight and use the open landscape to their advantage to avoid predators. We ask that you show up with an accurate rifle and are comfortable using it out to at least 300 yards. We kill a number of bucks inside of 250 yards but if you can shoot 400 it will only increase your odds of killing a good buck.

When is the best time to come? That depends of the type of hunt you are looking for. The most predictable time to hunt is the opening week as we have the local bucks pattered and know exactly which ones we will be targeting. Antelope move a bunch so we don’t have the luxury of looking over a lot of bucks to find the right one, we typically have the shooters scouted out and your hunt might be over in a day or two.

The late season hunts are my favorite because that’s when you have a chance to kill some really big bucks that have migrated in from their summer grounds to the North. This is a true migration hunt and new bucks show up every day. This is a more intense hunt and you may not even see that giant that we are looking for but when it pays off it can pay off big time. I killed my biggest buck to date on the last day of our season in 2018.

Archery Hunting - Our Archery hunts begin every year on September 1st. Great draw odds and affordable tags make this a very economic hunt for those looking to experience their first Western hunt or knock another animal off their buck list. We can accommodate single hunters up to groups of six, so you can come by yourself or bring the whole crew!

How do you hunt? You will be hunting out of pop up ground blinds unless we get a bunch of rain and sitting water is just not feasible. This will involve sitting for hours in a hot blind which is not the most physically challenging hunt but it will test your patience. You will be in the blind by yourself as and your guide will be in the immediate area checking on other hunters and scouting other locations to stay up to date on the most active locations in your area. Your guide will show you some photos of bucks that are in the area to give you an idea of what is around but ultimately which animal you harvest is completely up to you.

What size animal will I have the opportunity to harvest? That is up to you. Our goal is to give all of our hunters the opportunity to harvest an animal. We will show you what is in the area and help you with how to score these beautiful creatures but ultimately what you harvest is up to you. The buck pictured above is just shy of the 69” mark required to qualify for the P&Y record book and is a good representative of a nice archery buck for our area. You will see nice bucks but you are rolling the dice on having the big one come in to your waterhole during your hunt. If you are willing to hold out and go home empty handed then you may increase your odds of killing a P&y animal by passing on smaller bucks. If you are dead set on killing a buck that scores 75”+ then I recommend that you look into a limited entry or landowner tag hunt in New Mexico, Wyoming, or Arizona.

Average shot distance? Shot distance can range from 5 yards to over 50. We set the blinds to give you a shot in the 20-40 yard range. If you put the time in with your equipment to be confident out to 50 yards you will greatly increase your chances of killing a good buck. If we have to spot & stalk them due to weather conditions you will be looking at shots in the 50-70 yard range.

When is the best time to come? There is no “best” time to come for the archery hunts. The weather is hottest in August so the animals will be using water frequently. The later in the season you go the more rut activity starts to pick up which means the animals will be moving more and will still need water despite the cooling temperatures. The thing that will really hurt you is a freak rain storm or cool temps early in the season. There is no way to predict a cold front months in advance so if we experience adverse weather conditions we will shift to spot & stalk to give you the best opportunity possible.
