Merriams Turkey Hunts

Why should you choose us for your Merriam’s Turkey hunt?

The Experience

There are lots of places to hunt Merriam’s but few can compare to the scenic beauty of river breaks country in Eastern Montana. We can say with confidence that you will have the best Merriam’s guides in Montana. Our crew cut their teeth on educated Easterns and know these birds inside and out. You won’t find a more dedicated crew who will work tirelessly to make sure you have the best hunt possible.

We have a strong population of un-pressured, mature birds and it’s not uncommon to watch a big Tom work in from quite a ways off. We strictly manage out hunt area to maintain an abundant population of older age class birds so it doesn't matter if your the first group in camp or the last you are going to have and amazing hunt with lots of mature bird to chase around each day.

In addition to world class Turkey hunting we also offer the opportunity to fish and hunt prairie dogs while you are staying with us. This is a fantastic way to kill time in the afternoon or stay entertained while your partner finishes up his/her hunt. We strive to have a fun camp atmosphere that will make you will feel welcome from the moment you pull up till we say our goodbyes.

How We Hunt

Your guides will roost birds in the evening for the next mornings hunt. Ideally we try to kill our birds off the limb right at sunrise. If that doesn’t work out we will work another spot or two in the morning. We typically wrap up our hunt by 10-11am, we have wide open terrain and walking around blind calling spooks more birds than anything. We then head back to camp for lunch and a nap, we wake up at 3am so a nap goes a long way! Our guests are welcome to shoot prairie dogs or go fishing in the afternoon to pass the time. We eat dinner around 4-5pm and then kick back and relax in the afternoon while the guides go out to roost birds for the next mornings hunt. Overall this is a very enjoyable hunt and many of our guests come back year after year.

Our focus is on the experience of the hunt and doing things the right way. We hunt our birds strategically to ensure that they are as cooperative as possible and give you the opportunity to watch them work as naturally as possible. We never “crawl” or “reap” our birds, it’s not safe and borderline unethical in our opinion. If your goal is to kill as many birds as possible by any means necessary we are definitely not the outfit for you.

Hunter Opportunity - Harvest Success

A robust population of birds combined with a large hunt area gives us the ability to consistently produce quality hunts. Our hunters have enjoyed a +95% success rate over that last few seasons. We mangage our hunt area to allow for a large carryover of mature birds each year which makes for incredible hunting from the first day to the very last day. We are confident that we will be able to send you home with a trophy and memories to last a lifetime.

Hunt Details

Hunt packages include your food, lodging, transportation to and from the field as well as game prep and cleaning. You are responsible for getting to our camp, license fees and gratuities. The total cost of a non-resident hunting license runs about $160 for the first tag and $115 for the second tag. We recommend waiting until you have filled your first tag before purchasing a second tag online.

Our hunt area allows for the harvest of two birds per hunter so you can make the most out of your trip. We also have access to some prairie dog towns so that you can pass the time during the middle of the day or if you tag out early. We can provide a rifle and ammunition if needed. We do not charge you to use our rifles, we just ask that you compensate us for the ammunition used.

If you are flying in for your hunt you will be coming in/out of Billings Montana. Due to the remoteness of our hunt area we are not able to offer shuttles, you will need to rent a vehicle. It is not necessary to rent a 4x4 vehicle.

We do not have a taxidermy option at this time, if you would like to mount your bird we can freeze it whole and you can take it home with you for your local taxidermist to take care of.
